Dr. Andrew Hartman specializes in surgery of the shoulder, elbow, and hand. In addition to his orthopedic surgery residency, he also completed a year of fellowship training in upper extremity surgery at the University of California at San Diego. With over 18 years in practice, he is recognized as a leader in his field, with expertise in treating sports related injuries, arthritis, and fractures of the shoulder, elbow, and hand. For more than a decade, he has lectured and been an instructor at the internationally renowned San Diego Shoulder meeting. He also finds time to travel to teach other surgeons new and emerging techniques in shoulder arthroscopy, shoulder replacements, and upper extremity surgery.
Dr. Hartman understands the importance of listening to his patient’s concerns and goals when developing a comprehensive treatment plan, where non-surgical options, including the use of stem-cells, platelet rich plasma, and other biologic methods, are almost always the first line of defense. Dr. Hartman works closely with his rehabilitation team to customize treatment programs and utilize the most current methods in order to restore pre-injury function and return to activities as quickly and safely as possible. When surgery is unavoidable, he believes utilizing the most innovative, effective and minimally invasive techniques is essential to optimal patient outcomes and resuming pre-injury level of activity.
Although it was a love of science that first drew him to medicine, Dr. Hartman finds patient care to be the most rewarding aspect of his practice. When not in the office or operating room, Dr. Hartman enjoys spending time with his family, surfing, skiing, mountain biking, Brazilian Jui Jitsu and traveling.
